The Moore Academic building, built in 1911, was the former Hotel Champlain. AES consulted with Adirondack Architectural Heritage to preserve and restore the original hotel features. The first phase of the project consisted of the renovation and conversion of the Library into a Learning Commons to promote student collaboration & research. The renovations included the merger of the current Library space with the Tutoring & Accommodative Services Depts. to create the 19,000 square foot Learning Commons. The project consisted of asbestos abatement, demolition, construction of new interior spaces; including new finishes, doors, ceilings, interior windows, etc. Work also included new systems and equipment for HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, electrical, fire alarm, and telecommunications/data. The final phase of the Moore Building renovation covers the complete 50,000 square foot, five story exterior renovation including existing stucco removal / new exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS); reconstruction of east and west veranda stairs, replacement of all exterior doors, windows and exterior railings; reconstruction of loading dock; reconstruction of northwest exterior stairs; repaving of parking/driveway; and hazardous material abatement. The project also includes the installation of air conditioning including associated electrical and plumbing work, and renovation of the President’s Suite.
