January 16, 2026 — Middle school students from Stafford Middle School, Chazy Central Rural School and Saranac Lake Central School will compete in the MATHCOUNTS® Competition Series, the nation’s premier math competition, on Saturday, January 31 at the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (located at CCC’s former campus). The Champlain Valley Chapter competition has been organized by AES Northeast and Clinton Community College.

Teachers and students have been preparing for this prestigious competition since fall. Students will compete individually and in teams in both written and oral matches.

MATHCOUNTS is a national program with the mission to build confidence and improve attitudes about math and problem solving. The program focuses on middle school students, who are at a crucial stage for cultivating their interests and math skills. Without developing strong problem-solving skills, students face an uphill battle in pursuing science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) careers of the future. The Competition Series will consist of over 100,000 students, representing more than 4,000 schools from every U.S. state and territory, plus schools affiliated with the Department of Defense and State Department.

Clinton Community College is partnering with AES Northeast to co-host the 2026 MathCounts competition at the college’s Institute for Advanced Manufacturing, providing a supportive local venue for middle school students to engage in the national mathematics challenge and showcase their problem-solving skills. This collaboration highlights the college’s commitment to STEM education and community involvement by bringing together students, educators, and industry partners for an enriching academic event.

AES Northeast is a multidisciplinary engineering, architecture and survey firm committed to strengthening the communities we serve through innovation, education, and mentorship. By investing in MATHCOUNTS, AES Northeast helps cultivate the next generation of engineers, thinkers, and community leaders who will shape a stronger future for our region.
